Terms of Service
Last updated: October 23, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing and using the DEBATED platform, including the DEBATED debate-practice experience and the LAW courtroom experience (together, "the Platform"), you accept and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.
2. Description of the Service
The Platform is an AI-powered educational platform for debate practice and legal-simulation exercises. A single account gives you access to both experiences:
2.1 DEBATED (debate practice and learning)
- Practice debating against AI opponents and in live debates with other users
- Access a library of debate topics, an argument builder, and a case builder
- Receive AI-generated feedback, scoring, and analytics on debate performance
- Participate in classes, teams, tournaments, and leaderboards
- Use additional practice tools such as cross-examination training, an opponent simulator, a judge simulator, debate replay, and speech analytics
2.2 LAW (courtroom and legal exercises)
- Take part in simulated trials in an AI courtroom, in roles such as advocate, judge, witness, juror, or observer
- Practice individually against AI participants or in multiplayer trials with other users, including public and private courtrooms, invitations, and jury deliberation
- Work with an educational case library, case-builder tools, and trial preparation and research materials
- Receive AI-generated rulings, verdicts, and performance evaluations as part of the simulated proceedings
3. Accounts
3.1 Account Creation and Eligibility
To access certain features, you must create an account. One account covers both DEBATED and LAW. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to keep it updated. You must be able to form a binding contract; if you are a minor, you should use the Platform under the supervision of a parent, guardian, or educator.
3.2 Account Security
You are responsible for safeguarding your credentials and for all activity under your account. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized access. We record sign-in events and may send security notifications when important account changes occur (for example, email or password changes).
3.3 Email Verification
Certain account changes (such as changing your email address) require verification. A verification code is sent to the new email address and the change only takes effect after successful verification and, where the platform supports it, after the login email is actually updated. Until verification and any required platform update are complete, the existing email remains the verified login email on your account. In some cases the platform may not be able to change the built-in login email automatically; in that case the new address is recorded as pending and you may need to contact support to complete the change.
3.4 Account Suspension and Termination
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or applicable law, or for fraudulent, illegal, or abusive behavior. You may delete your account at any time from your account settings.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Platform for any illegal purpose or in violation of any law
- Harass, abuse, threaten, or harm other users
- Submit false, misleading, or fraudulent content
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Platform or other users' accounts
- Use automated systems to access the Platform without permission
- Interfere with or disrupt the Platform's operation
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation
- Misuse trial roles, invitations, or public courtrooms, for example by joining a trial solely to disrupt it
5. User-Generated Content
You retain ownership of content you create on the Platform (debate arguments, trial arguments, objections, questions, notes, transcripts you save, and similar content). By using the Platform, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, and display your content solely to operate and improve the Platform. You are responsible for ensuring your content does not violate these Terms or any third-party rights.
6. AI Functionality and Its Limitations
Both DEBATED and LAW use artificial intelligence to generate responses, feedback, scores, rulings, verdicts, and analysis. AI-generated content may contain errors, biases, or inaccuracies. You should:
- Verify important information from reliable sources
- Use AI feedback as a learning aid, not as authoritative fact
- Exercise critical thinking when evaluating AI-generated arguments, rulings, or scores
AI feedback is provided "as is" and should not be relied upon as professional advice. Our Disclaimer explains these limitations in more detail.
7. Debate and LAW Activities
7.1 Educational Purpose
All debate activities and LAW exercises on the Platform are educational simulations. They do not constitute professional legal advice, do not create a lawyer-client or other professional relationship, and must not be used as a substitute for advice from a qualified legal professional.
7.2 LAW Trials and Roles
LAW trials are simulated proceedings based on fictional educational cases. Trial roles (advocate, judge, witness, juror, observer) are simulated positions within an exercise, not real professional capacities. Verdicts, rulings, and jury outcomes are AI-generated or participant-generated results of the simulation, not real judicial decisions.
7.3 Trial Participation
Organizers of private or multiplayer trials may invite participants, assign roles, set trial policies, and remove participants from their trials. Public courtrooms are open to registered users under the trial's own rules. Participants are expected to engage in good faith in the spirit of the exercise.
8. Social Features and User Conduct
The Platform lets you connect with other users. You may send and accept friend requests, maintain a public profile, view other users' public profiles, send debate challenges, and interact in public debates and trials. In addition to the conduct rules in Section 4:
- Do not send unwanted or repeated friend requests or challenges
- Do not misrepresent yourself on your profile or in interactions
- You may block other users, and you may report users or content that violates these Terms; administrators review reports and may take action, including suspension
9. Subscription Plans and Billing
9.1 Plans
The Platform offers a Free plan, a Premium plan, a White Label plan, and an Enterprise plan. Features, limits, and pricing for each plan are displayed on the Pricing page and may change with reasonable notice. Your plan applies to your account across both DEBATED and LAW.
9.2 Free Plan
The Free plan is available at no cost with limited features. No payment method is required to use the Free plan.
9.3 Premium Subscription
Premium is a paid subscription that renews automatically on a recurring billing cycle (monthly or annually) until cancelled. When you subscribe, you authorize us (or our payment provider) to charge your payment method for each billing period.
9.4 Subscription Renewal and Cancellation
Paid subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period. You may cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. We will send a renewal reminder before a paid subscription renews.
9.5 Failed Payments
If a renewal payment fails, we may retry or notify you to update your payment method. Continued failure may result in loss of paid access.
9.6 Plan Changes and Price Changes
You may upgrade or downgrade your plan. Changes take effect according to the billing rules described on the Platform. We may change subscription pricing with reasonable advance notice; existing subscribers are notified before any change takes effect.
9.7 Refunds
Refunds, where applicable, are handled according to the rules of the applicable payment provider and local law. We do not provide refunds for partial billing periods except where required by law.
10. Promotional Codes and Free Periods
The Platform may offer promotional codes that grant benefits such as a limited period of free Premium access, percentage discounts, or fixed discounts. Promotional codes that grant free Premium access do not require a payment method, and redeeming such a code does not authorize any charge. Each code has its own redemption limits, and a code can normally be redeemed only once per account. A promotional or free period ends automatically when it expires, after which the account returns to the Free plan unless you have separately subscribed and authorized payment. We do not automatically charge you when a promotional period ends.
11. White Label and Enterprise
11.1 White Label
The White Label plan lets an organization run a branded version of the Platform, including custom branding, a custom domain or subdomain, and user management, for a recurring fee. White Label is governed by these Terms together with any separate White Label arrangement.
11.2 Enterprise
Enterprise is the highest-tier plan for large institutions, offering the features included in White Label plus additional customization and support. Enterprise terms are agreed on a case-by-case basis.
12. Administrative Actions
Platform administrators may take actions on accounts, including changing a plan, changing account status (such as suspension), or changing permissions. Where these actions affect your account, you will receive a notification explaining what changed. These actions are recorded internally for audit and safety purposes.
13. Notification Preferences
You can manage certain email notification preferences from Settings → Notifications. Security, payment, and subscription-change emails are always enabled and cannot be disabled. Optional product and marketing emails respect your preferences. See our Privacy Policy for details.
14. Intellectual Property
All Platform content, including text, graphics, logos, software, the DEBATED brand, and the LAW experience, is the property of DEBATED or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. Case materials, parties, evidence, and exhibits used in LAW exercises are fictional educational material created for the Platform.
15. Platform Availability
We strive to keep the Platform available but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features with reasonable notice.
16. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
THE PLATFORM IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, DEBATED SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THE PLATFORM. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under applicable law.
17. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless DEBATED from claims, damages, and expenses arising out of your use of the Platform or violation of these Terms.
18. Changes to the Service and Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify users of material changes via email or through the Platform. Your continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
19. Contact and Support
For questions about these Terms, or to contact support, use the in-app contact option or email contact@getdebated.com.
